The Université de Neuchâtel (UniNE) was founded in 1838 as an Academy. Having acquired its status as a full university in 1909, it celebrates its first centennial this year. It is one of the top research universities in Switzerland in various scientific domains. Most notably, it is embedded in the local R&D tissue centred on microelectronics and nanotechnologies including the Insitute of Microtechnique (IMT-EPFL) and the Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM).
The university has a strong experience in participating in European projects. In LEADS, UniNE is represented by the Dependable and Distributed Systems group, part of the Computer Science Department. The current activities of this group focus on large scale distributed systems, concurrent programming, and peer-to-peer networks. Its members publish regularly in major international conferences and journals. The group has recently participated in FP7 project VELOX (http://www.velox-project.eu), and is currently participating to FP7 projects SRT-15 (http://www.srt-15.eu) and ParaDIME (http://www.paradime-project.eu).
Key personnel
Prof. Pascal Felber has received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in 1994 and 1998, respectively. From 1998 to 2002, he has worked at Oracle Corporation and Bell-Labs (Lucent Technologies) in the USA. From 2002 to 2004, he has been an Assistant Professor at Institut EURECOM in France. Since October 2004, he is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. He has published over 100 research papers in the field of dependable and distributed systems.
Dr. Etienne Riviere (project coordinator) has received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from Universite de Rennes 1, France in 2004 and 2007, respectively. In 2008 and 2009 he has been the recipient of the competitive ERCIM “Alain Bensoussan” fellowship, which led him to work at the University of Neuchatel and at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway. Since October 2009, he is a researcher at the University of Neuchâtel. Etienne interest and expertise lie in publish/subscribe systems, content-based routing, decentralized search and storage, and peer-to-peer systems. Etienne is responsible for the coordination of LEADS.
